What is Therapeutic Massage?
Therapeutic massage is a manual therapy that involves manipulating the muscles and other soft tissue structures in the body. Massage may be used to treat:
- Anxiety
- Digestive disorders
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic tension
- Insomnia related to stress
- Soft tissue strains or injuries; tennis or golfers elbow
- Limited range of motion
- Temporalmandiular joint pain
- Sports injuries
- Recovery from medical procedures
There are a variety of modalities and techniques that fall under the practice of therapeutic massage. Some are well known and employed in conjunction with conventional Western medicine: Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, and Myofascial Release. Massage sessions are customized to the needs of each client, whether it be simply relaxation, or relief from a physical or stress-related ailment. My particular approach to therapeutic massage blends these modalities and also applies a 5,000 year old system of healing called Ayurveda.
